KEITH BROWN MSP WELCOMES ACTION TO TACKLE NOISE ISSUES AT HMP & YOI STIRLING

Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Clackmannanshire & Dunblane, has welcomed confirmation from the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Angela Constance MSP, that progress is being made to address ongoing noise concerns raised by residents living near HMP & YOI Stirling.

In response to Keith’s question in the Scottish Parliament today, the Cabinet Secretary confirmed that the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has been trialling new measures to reduce noise, including the installation of prototype window surrounds on accommodation blocks closest to local housing. Early feedback from testing has been positive, with full installation expected by March 2026, subject to planning approval.

Keith raised the issue on behalf of local residents who have endured noise disruption for a prolonged period, calling for the matter to be treated with urgency and for a lasting resolution to be delivered.

Commenting, Keith said:

“Residents living near Cornton Vale have had to put up with serious noise disruption for far too long, and it has had a real impact on their wellbeing and quality of life.

“I welcome the Cabinet Secretary’s assurance that the Scottish Prison Service is now treating this as a matter of urgency and that progress is finally being made to deliver practical solutions.

“The positive feedback from the recent trial is encouraging, but residents will quite rightly want to see words translated into sustained action. It’s vital that the installation work proceeds without delay and that the final measures are effective in bringing lasting peace of mind to those affected.

“I will continue to work closely with the Scottish Government, the Prison Service and local residents to make sure this issue remains a priority until a permanent resolution is delivered.”
