KEITH BROWN MSP CALLS FOR URGENT REVIEW OF ROAD SAFETY MEASURES IN BRIDGE OF ALLAN
Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency, has called on Stirling Council to undertake an urgent and comprehensive review of road safety in Bridge of Allan following a series of serious road incidents in the town.
In a detailed letter to the Chief Executive of Stirling Council, Keith raised concerns over the growing number of collisions on Henderson Street and surrounding areas – some of which have come within seconds of seriously injuring pedestrians.
Constituents have also contacted him expressing deep worry about recent road layout changes and the impact on safety.
Commenting, Keith said:
“I have been increasingly concerned by the number of road accidents taking place in Bridge of Allan. One recent collision on Henderson Street saw a car veer off the road and miss a constituent and her young daughter by seconds. Thankfully, they were unharmed – but very badly shaken.
“Another incident at the clock tower outside the Westerton Arms also came within moments of causing serious injury. These are not isolated events – there have been several accidents in the area, and it is a miracle that no one has been hurt so far.
“Bridge of Allan is a popular destination with a busy high street, many local businesses, and visitors throughout the year. People should feel safe walking or driving through Henderson Street and the surrounding areas, but right now many residents simply do not.
“There may be different reasons behind each individual incident, but taken together they point clearly to the need for action. That is why I have urged Stirling Council to carry out a full review of the current road layout, signage, markings, speed limits and the potential use of cameras or other safety measures.
“Everything possible must be done to ensure a safe environment for both drivers and pedestrians.”
