A particularly moving story emerged recently about Private George Alister Walker Ewan from Dollar, who served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and died in battle in Italy in June 1944. Previously, his grave was marked as that of an unknown soldier. Thanks to an independent researcher who provided evidence to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, his grave has now been rededicated with military honours, 80 years after his passing. Those interested in learning more about this remarkable story can do so here
It was an honour to ask Parliament to recognise Private Ewan’s memory in a motion, and I have also contacted Clackmannanshire Council to explore the possibility of adding his name to Dollar’s war memorial.
