Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency has welcomed the SNP Scottish Government announcement of £40 million for councils across Scotland, including both Stirling and Clackmannanshire, to boost the supply of affordable homes.
First Minister John Swinney outlined in the Programme for Government that £600 million would be committed to affordable housing in the current financial year and allocating this £40 million will allow for the purchase of additional properties in order to reduce temporary accommodation and bring vacant buildings back into use.
Commenting, Keith said:
“”Bringing empty and vacant buildings back into use is an important tool in tackling the housing emergency and Scotland’s councils have been supported in purchasing almost 1,500 properties in 2023-24 for use as affordable homes.
“This allocation of £40 million will enhance that work and the important ambition of ensuring that everyone has a safe and warm place to call home.
“With public finances under immense pressure, every penny is important and I know that these funds will be put to good use in developing the housing my constituents in Clackmannanshire & Dunblane want, need and deserve.”
