Keith highlights commuter help measures replacing peak fares pilot

Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency, is encouraging constituents to take up a range of commuter support measures from the SNP Scottish Government, aimed at helping those who use Scotrail trains during peak times with the cost of travel.

Speaking this morning, Keith said:

“With UK Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves poised to cut public spending at the upcoming UK Budget, the Scottish Government is operating in a financial climate where the level of fare subsidy required through the peak fare pilot project is not sustainable. Nevertheless, the SNP – determined to ensure commuters continue to be supported – has outlined a range of new measures to achieve this.

“The trial suspension of peak fares was a welcome saving for many, underpinned by a £40 million subsidy from the SNP Scottish Government.  And, whilst it may be regrettable that the pilot has had to come to an end, the new measures being brought in will, I am sure, be welcomed by those of my constituents who travel during peak times.

“Encouraging more road users onto more sustainable transport is an important contributor to seeing Scotland meet our Net Zero target and I encourage my constituents to take up these newly announced initiatives.”
