Local MSP welcomes news Bridge of Allan Post Office will be readvertised – but more needs to be done after almost two years of closure.
The MSP for Bridge of Allan, Keith Brown, has called on the Post Office to be more proactive in finding a suitable buyer for the Bridge of Allan Post Office branch, following the news that the branch is due to be re-advertised.
The news comes following an inquiry Mr. Brown raised with the Post Office regarding the progress made on re-establishing the Post Office in the town.
In their response, the Post Office confirmed that previous attempts at finding a retailer to take on the Bridge of Allan opportunity had fallen though, though they intend to readvertise the branch shortly.
The Bridge of Allan Post Office has been closed since January 2023, and Keith has been pursuing it’s reopening ever since – issuing countless letters during that time, and meeting with the Post Office’s public affairs manager for Scotland in person last September to discuss the matter.
The Post Office are now looking for retailers to take on this opportunity.
Commenting, MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane Keith Brown said:
“I’m calling on the Post Office to be more proactive in finding a suitable buyer for the Bridge of Allan Post Office branch.
“While I’m glad to hear that the Bridge of Allan Post Office branch will be re-advertised after almost two years of closure, more needs to be done to secure a buyer so that the branch can eventually re-open.
“It is ridiculous that an area the size of Bridge of Allan, along with the University, could go without postal services for this amount of time – it is long overdue that these essential services should return to Bridge of Allan.
“I will do all I can to ensure that Post Office services are brought back to Bridge of Allan.”
