SNP amendment on Starmer’s two child cap – first test for Labour MP’s

Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency, has described the Labour Government’s decision to retain the two child cap as “an absolute outrage” and “the first test for local MPs”.

Speaking this afternoon, Keith said:

“The Labour Government’s decision to retain the two child cap is an absolute outrage and shows that Sir Keir Starmer’s claims to be prioritising child poverty are empty words indeed.

“It also represents the first test of local Labour MPs.  My SNP colleagues in Westminster have tabled an amendment calling for the two child benefit cap to be scrapped and if selected by the Speaker – as it should be – then it will be voted on next week.

“My challenge to those MPs elected to represent my constituents in Westminster is simple.  Will you back Starmer’s Two Child Cap?  Or will you support hard-pressed families in Clackmannanshire & Dunblane by joining with the SNP in opposing this appalling policy which is pushing thousands of Scottish children into poverty?

“The answer to that question will tell us exactly where their priorities lie.”
