Foster care fortnight – Keith praises carers and urges more to get involved

Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign, delivered by the leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. It has been marked across the country between the 13th and the 26th of May.  Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency has taken the opportunity to both praise the work done by foster carers and to highlight the ongoing need for new foster carers to come forward.

Speaking this afternoon, Keith said:

“Foster Care Fortnight is an excellent opportunity to highlight the work that foster carers do in my constituency and across Scotland, and the safe space and opportunities they offer to young people at a time of need in their lives.

“Nearly 4,000 children live with over 3,000 foster families in Scotland.  But of course, for all sorts of reasons, people do stop fostering and new entrants are needed every year. The Foster Network has set a target for Scotland of 400 new foster families in 2024 and I really hope that can be achieved.

“There is a real need more foster families to ensure that every child gets the care they need, and is well supported, within their community. In particular, foster families are needed who can support sibling groups, to ensure children can be cared for together and don’t lose their connections to their family.

“I would encourage anyone in my Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency interested in becoming a foster carer to consider it very seriously and to check out the information that is readily available online.”
