Keith Brown MSP launches petition to open a banking hub in Alloa.

CLOSURE OF TSB BANK SHOWS THE NEED FOR A DIFFERENT APPROACH – BROWN

The MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, has recently launched a petition on change.org, calling for the opening of a banking hub in Alloa, along the same lines as the ones currently operating in Cambuslang, Carluke and Troon, among others in Scotland.

The banking hubs are operated by the Post Office, and offer postal services, personal and business banking, and bill payments, all under one roof.

The MSP’s petition has come after TSB announced plans to close its Alloa branch – Mr. Brown has warned that closing the branch will mean that Alloa town centre is left with only two cash machines and leaves the entirety of Clackmannanshire – an area with a population of 52,000 – with only one bank.

Keith has highlighted the impact that closing Alloa TSB will have on local people and businesses who rely on the high street bank for access to cash and services, and has contacted TSB to raise these concerns, urging them to re-consider this move.

Mr. Brown is now seeking to organise a round table discussion with the banks, the Post Office, and other relevant organisations.

SNP MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, said:

“Following the news that the TSB in Alloa is to close, I have created an online petition to campaign for a banking hub in Alloa.”

“Banking hubs are centres operated by the Post Office, which offer postal services, personal and business banking, and bill payments, all under one roof.”

“As I understand it, there is currently one in Brechin, Cambuslang, Carluke and Troon among other locations in Scotland, and I think this could be a workable longer-term solution for Alloa, and Clackmannanshire.”

“The closure of the TSB branch will mean that both Alloa and Clackmannanshire will be left with only one bank. That is deeply disappointing for an area with a population of nearly 52,000.”

“It will leave Alloa town centre with only two cash machines – which will be concerning for the people and businesses who rely on cash.”

“I’ve written to TSB and will do what I can to ensure they remain operational and protect jobs in the area – but after years of bank closures, local people quite rightly feel let down by the big banks.”

“As a community, we need to look at the alternatives available to us, and through this petition we can demonstrate public support for a banking hub here in Alloa.”
