WASPI women back by Scottish Parliament

WASPI WOMEN BACKED BY SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency, has commented on last night’s vote in the Scottish Parliament welcoming the report of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and calling urgently on the UK Government to deliver on the Ombudsman’s recommendations to pay compensation in full and without delay to those women born in the 1950s who have been subject to pension injustices.

Speaking today Keith said:

“The campaign by Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) to ensure this extremely important issue of pension inequality be addressed has been one I have been proud to support.

“I am delighted that the report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman into the pension injustices on women born in the 1950s has agreed with them.  There can be absolutely no more excuses or delays from the UK Government. The compensation the WASPI women are entitled to must be paid out – and quickly.

“Whilst the motion rightly highlighted the importance of cross-party commitments to delivering just for all WASPI women, I have to say that I was very disappointed that both the Labour and Tory parties not only brought forward amendments that would have removed the call on the UK Government to pay the compensation in full and with out delay; they also abstained on the final vote.

“I simply cannot understand that approach, but I am delighted that the Scottish Parliament, nevertheless, passed the motion.”
