The MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, has recently held constructive talks with McGill’s buses regarding the lack of punctuality in the area.
At the meeting last Friday, Keith raised a wide range of constituents’ concerns about the bus service, primarily on the punctuality of McGill’s buses, but also the age of some of the buses in the fleet given the recent experience of pupils from Dollar Academy.
Keith welcomed the recognition from McGill’s of the necessity to do better. During the meeting it became clear that one of the issues facing McGill’s buses is that they have a lack of drivers, and Keith was glad to learn that McGill’s intends to rectify this situation by offering end to end training to successful applicants who already have a full driving licence.
Given a recent fire on one of McGill’s buses carrying pupils from Dollar Academy, and other incidents effecting school pupils, Keith also raised concerns about the age of McGill’s bus fleet – receiving reassurances that McGill’s are actively seeking funding for new electric buses.
It is understood that McGill’s plan to attend Mr. Brown’s annual jobs fair, which will again be held in Alloa Town Hall, on the 2nd of February next year.
Commenting, SNP MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, said:
“For months now I’ve been hearing from constituents regarding McGill’s buses, and the issues facing constituents trying to make use of their services – I’ve also raised this in Parliament on numerous occasions.
“Last Friday, I had a constructive meeting with McGill’s regarding the bus services in Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, and I was glad to hear reassurances from them that they are aware of the issues in the local area, and intend to improve the service, specifically by committing to hire more drivers, and investing in newer, better electric buses.
“I’ll continue to monitor the situation regarding McGill’s buses, but in the meantime, I look forward to McGill’s attending my annual jobs fair on the 2nd of February next year, where they hope to attract potential new bus drivers.”
