Local MSP Keith Brown asks Historic Environment Scotland Chief Exec of its plans to re-open Clackmannan Tower after decades of closure.

The MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, has raised the ongoing closure of Clackmannan tower with the Chief Executive of Historic Environment Scotland, in a Parliamentary Committee earlier in December.

Keith sits on the Scottish Parliament’s Culture, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee which regularly hears from and scrutinises the work of the Parliament, Government and other public bodies relating to culture.

As part of that scrutiny work, Mr. Brown asked Historic Environment Scotland’s Chief Executive, Alex Paterson, if sites like the Clackmannan tower would be due to re-open, with a response expected to be forthcoming.

Commenting, SNP MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, said:

“We have a particular strength of historic sites in this area, and Clackmannan Tower is amongst the most iconic.

“For as long as I’ve been an MSP the inside of Clackmannan tower has been closed to the public – meaning that it does not attract the same footfall as other historic sites in the wider area, like the Alloa tower or Wallace monument.

“It’s important to get these facilities open and promoted so that we can attract more tourism to the area, and I look forward to hearing from Historic Environment Scotland on this.”
