Keith Brown MSP congratulates Leighton Library in Dunblane on securing Historic Environment Scotland funding

The MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, has congratulated Dunblane’s historic Leighton Library on securing a massive £188,000 grant from Historic Environment Scotland, to help support the building’s restoration and re-opening.

The library, which is the oldest purpose-built library in Scotland, is currently undergoing a significant restoration project – with the £188,000 funding from Historic Environment Scotland bringing the group within touching distance of their £500,000 fundraising goal.

Local MSP Keith Brown has welcomed this news, and has supported the project through various means, by mentioning the library in debates in the Scottish Parliament, and by asking the Scottish Culture minister, Christina McKelvie to visit the site, subject to the library agreeing.

Commenting, SNP MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, said:

“I’ve been following the restoration of the Leighton Library closely since it began.

“The historic nature of the library means that it is of significance not just to Dunblane, but to Scotland as a whole. Even though this is true, the fundraising target of £500,000 is still an ambitious goal to meet.

“This funding from Historic Environment Scotland goes a long way in helping the Leighton Library Trust to reach that target, and I look forward to hearing more about how the development progresses.”
