Cheaper fares for commuters and more flexibility for all rail users

Keith Brown MSP has highlighted the savings available to local commuters with a six-month trial funded by the Scottish Government which will see Off-Peak fares on Scotrail trains available all day long, seven days a week from 2 October 2023 (today) until 31 March 2024.

Speaking today, Keith said:

“This is great news for commuters who will see significant savings on their daily travel costs and increased flexibility for other passengers.  Importantly, that increased access to the reduced fare will make rail travel more accessible, more affordable and, therefore, more attractive to a wider range of potential customers.

“The trial is Scotland-wide and applies on all Scotrail services where peak pricing had been in place.  For my constituents it will mean that, for example, a return ticket from Dunblane to Edinburgh at peak times which last week would have cost £18.10 will now come down to only £11.10, a £7 saving per day.

“Those passengers with Season Tickets, Flexipasses or Anytime tickets bought before the price change may be due a refund and should contact Scotrail.”

“Making public transport more accessible and more affordable is key to building a wealthier, greener and fairer Scotland.”
