Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency has highlighted new figures which show the important role being played by the Best Start Foods and Best Start Grant payments from the Scottish Government in supporting local families. Figures released this week show that 3,380 children in the Clackmannanshire Council area are being supported, with payments worth £1,375,681 having been made to families in the first six months of this year.
Speaking this morning, Keith said:
“The Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods payments provide crucial support to families at key stages of their children’s lives. These figures show that, through these payments, the Scottish Government is supporting thousands of families across my constituency.
“In the first six months of this year, payments worth over £1.3million have been made to families in Clackmannanshire & Dunblane.
“This stands alongside the Scottish Child Payment as proof of the SNP’s commitment to tackling child poverty.
“Frustratingly, the cost-of-living crisis – made in Westminster by the Tories – continues to hit folk hard and means the Scottish Government has one hand tied behind its back as it tries to protect families from the worst of Westminster’s incompetence.
“This really is a Cost of the Union Crisis, and it doesn’t have to be like this.
“With the proper powers of a normal independent nation we could do so much more to build the fairer, more prosperous country our people want and deserve.”
