Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency, has welcomed the pay deal that has been agreed for police officers.
Speaking today (Thursday) Keith said:
“In Scotland there are 30 police officers per 10,000 population, compared to only 25 per 10,000 in both England and Wales. And, of course, Police Officers in Scotland, including here in Clackmannanshire & Dunblane, are significantly better paid.
“In spite of the extremely difficult financial environment created by Westminster’s mismanagement of the economy, I am delighted to be able to welcome the very positive action taken by the SNP Government in investing £11.6 billion in policing since 2013 and this week’s 7% increase to pay and allowances, which will be backdated to 1st April 2023, ensures a cumulative increase of 12.35% in police officer pay since April 2022.
“I have the utmost respect for the essential role that our police officers perform in keeping communities across my Clackmannanshire & Dunblane constituency safe and this pay deal rightly recognises their hard work and valuable contribution to the lowest recorded crime rates since the 1970s.”
