The MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, and MP for Stirling, Alyn Smith, have recently written to the UK Chancellor regarding the UK Governments recent cash access policy statement, from August 2023.
The statement outlines the UK Government’s policy on cash access – stating that the ‘vast majority of people and businesses are set to be no further than three miles away from withdrawing cash.’
A key part of this will be the implementation of new ‘bank hubs’ – new, dedicated places where the public can access basic banking services, like withdrawing and depositing cash, or paying in cheques.
While both Stirling politicians welcomed this commitment, they also pressed the Chancellor to clarify what the qualifying criteria for an area to receive one of these ‘banking hubs’ is – in order to ensure that local areas in Clackmannanshire and Stirling areas affected by bank closures are able to regain their access to cash through these hubs.
