Keith Brown MSP calls for action on traffic safety in Fishcross

The MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Keith Brown, recently held a street surgery in Fishcross, meeting with local residents to hear their concerns. After wide-ranging discussions with residents, it became clear that traffic safety in the town is a common concern for many of those living in Fishcross.

Their concerns were primarily regarding speed on Pitfairn road and Alloa road – this is particularly important as Fishcross primary school is nearby. Residents have also noticed an increase in the number of lorries, which are less affected by some speed-management measures, such as speed bumps, in comparison to cars.

Residents in Fishcross state they had previously been promised traffic calming measures, but these have not been delivered. Some residents told Keith they feel that the lack of attention towards these issues means that Fishcross can feel like a forgotten village.

While there, Keith was able to see these issues for himself. He has therefore called on the authorities responsible to take action – writing to both the local Police and Clackmannanshire council regarding these issues.

Commenting, Keith Brown MSP said:

“It was wonderful to meet with many local residents at my street surgery in Fishcross last week. What became clear to me very quickly was the necessity to implement better traffic management in the village, to encourage safer driving.

“Many residents in the area are rightly concerned about this – and having seen it for myself, I too am concerned about this.

“Despite having raised this on several occasions, tangible action has yet to be taken – it’s no wonder residents feel that Fishcross is a “forgotten village”.

“I am therefore calling for Police Scotland and Clackmannanshire council to listen to and act on the concerns of local people.

“I’ve contacted Clackmannanshire council calling for the speed limit in Fishcross to be brought down to 20mph – in-line with the surrounding areas and to implement traffic calming measures in the village.   I’ve also written to the Police highlighting the problems that locals are facing, asking them to consider further speed enforcement measures in the area.”
